Sept. 6th and 7th
Hello from Grafton, IL where the Illinois River
meets the Mississippi. Grafton is a
lovely, historic river town with many wineries, bars, restaurants and
shops. I might note, they do close down
early on weekday nights. We took a
stroll down the main street last night in hopes of finding an ice cream shop,
but everything was “lights out”. The
time was a little after eight o’clock.
Another tid bit about Grafton is that it is the wintering home of the
bald eagles.

We set sail for Grafton early yesterday morning
from Beardstown, IL for an 80+ mile trip down the last part of the
Illinois. This is where the river widens
out, but not much is happening along the river.
It seemed for many miles, even our usual birds and water fowl just
disappeared. I hate the word “boring”
(dates back to my teaching days J)
but the trip was long and not as many exciting sights…in other words a bit
boring! As we neared Grafton, the
landscape changed and you could see many high cliffs that surround the rivers
in this area. So, things perked up! We are at the Grafton Harbor Marina, which
has all the creature comforts we love so much.
There is even a pool and hot tub.
So, all is well with the crew. We have been gone a week today, and have
started to run into boats we have seen in other marinas. It’s been enjoyable to catch up on their
experiences and adventures along this journey South. So long for now!
