Leaving Green Turtle Bay on a cool September morning. |
Nancy bundled in her blanket. We are off to Nashvillle. |
We received a text this morning informing us
that today is “Talk Like a Pirate Day”.
So, shiver me timbers, I had better get busy writing the blog. We have just tied up at our “marina” at
Bumpus Mills, Tenn. I use the term
loosely because there just isn’t much here other than a place to tie up and get
electricity. We are on our way to
Nashville and this was the first third of the voyage. A very nice man named Wally runs his own
little marina and here we are safe and sound.
We left Green Turtle Bay today about 7:00 AM on a cool, crisp
morning. Our sail is on the Cumberland
River, but Barkley Lake is all part of that river. Barkley Lake is HUGE and runs for about 100
miles. It was formed 25 years ago when a
lock and dam was built and flooded thousands of acres to provide recreational
facilities and wildlife sanctuaries. The
scenery is spectacular!
The last time I blogged, we had made
reservations at Patti’s 1880s Restaurant and the van was coming to pick us
up. That happened as planned and we had
another wonderful meal with Patti’s out of this world desserts! On Tuesday, we rented the marina van and made
a trip to Paducah for provisions. (that
could also be written…for some wine, liquor and cigars for Steve J)
Golly, it was really fun to actually ride in a car and see the world
from a highway! We just aren’t use to
that lately! It had finally stopped
raining and there were lots of people out on the docks socializing. It just amazes me how many of the Loopers are
from all over the world and have such amazing tales to tell. Since we are going to be on the river the
next few days, we decided to eat at the Yacht Club again last night. Yesterday was National Cheeseburger Day, so
they had a special for the night and we ate well! J

Many of you know that Bill Sellar is our crew on
this trip. In the beginning, both Bill
and Jeanie were going to go with us but Jeanie broke her ankle in June and has
had to be completely off her foot. Today
she was released from the Dr. and will now do physical therapy for 4-6 weeks
and then be good as new! When we get to
Mobile, Bill plans to drive back to get her and bring her to the boat to make
the Gulf crossing. So that was exciting
news for all of us.
So Maties, until next time, good bye!
